PLDCU Art Thread

A Stronger Loving World

…is the title of the final chapter of Watchmen. It also suits the ongoing creative project of the Promised Land DC Universe (PLDCU). This is a collaborative endeavor that intends to create an idealized DCU, mixing published material (canon and non) with fan-fiction. The main thrust of the work is to deal with the frustrations of the longtime fans of DC’s characters and mythologies, and to give the major players true arcs, purposes, and endings in ways that feel proper and satisfying. In context of What Came Before…we are divining What Is To Come.

I currently lack the free time (or more honestly, the self-discipline) to contribute much writing to this project beyond the odd concept or angle. However, I do have the energy to render some of these characters in full color art. This is the purpose of this thread, to collect for all time the signs and wonders of this new universe.

The first character I drew is Conner Kent, aka Superman. Our version of Conner Kent is heavily inspired by the Young Justice TV series, specifically season one. Our main frustration came from the fact that Conner is clearly the main character of the YJ story with several plot threads running through him. This was nuked in the S2 timeskip, which has been discussed more thoroughly elsewhere on this forum.

In the PLDCU, Conner Kent takes on the mantle of Superman sometime after Clark Kent leaves Earth for New Genesis. His look here is meant to be an older, more manly version of his animated appearance. The costume mixes post-resurrection Superman from the 90s and the red S-shield that Conner usually wears on a T-shirt. He wears no cape. I think it suits Conner’s nature as a no-nonsense brawler, and is distinct from the classic blue. Perhaps it’s black to better absorb solar radiation, to make up for his half-human DNA weaknesses. Maybe it also is made of futuristic stealth fabric, perhaps designed by Batman. Personally, I think he just thinks it’s cool.

Here now is Conner’s equal and opposite: Damian Wayne, the Batman. Damian takes up the mantle at the age of seventeen after his father Bruce Wayne is finally gunned down, ending his own crusade sometime in his fifties. Since then, Damian has refined the Batman project into something combining mystical reverence and a cold science. He is cybernetically augmented, having replaced his hands and feet with prosthetics and placed chips in his brain connecting directly to the Brother Eye AI. This look is what he calls his “Terror Suit” and shows off his flair for the theatrical. Sort of Raiden from Metal Gear Rising meets Dracula and Doctor Doom.
